Therapy For Adults
Let’s face it, navigating life can be challenging and exhausting. Whether you’re raising a family, juggling working full time on top of all of your other day to day responsibilities, struggling in your relationship, going off to college, starting a new career, adjusting to becoming a new mom, dealing with grief, trauma, unexpected changes or anything else life throws at you, I am here to help you sort through it all and find a clear path towards whatever healing looks like for you. Perhaps some of the things mentioned above are causing anxiety, or you have decided it’s finally time to tackle that dark cloud that’s been hanging over you. I will teach you the tools you need to overcome these feelings and live a happier, less stressful life.
Trauma Therapy
Trauma can cause many adverse reactions in our lives. If you’ve experienced a traumatic event, you know how hard it can be to move on. You may feel you are constantly triggered and because of it, and experience frequent anxiety and panic attacks. It can feel like your thoughts are constantly filled with reminders of the event and it may have even stopped you from doing some things you were able to do before.
Julia Coley, LMHC is trained to provide EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Resprocessing) therapy to help alleviate some symptoms of trauma and PTSD.
More information on EMDR can be found here: https://www.emdr.com
Therapy for First Responders
Being a first responder poses it’s own set of unique challenges when it comes to mental health. Long shifts, time away from family, helping people in their worst moments and in turn seeing and experiencing things most never will can all put an immense amount of stress on a first responder.
Julia Coley, LMHC has completed a 50 hour Certified First Responder Training. She comes from a First Responder family herself and has seen first hand how overwhelming it can be to do this work.
Seeking therapy as a First Responder can be daunting, as there is often a stigma around not being able to “handle it on your own.” Know that at Wellness Within Counseling, your privacy is top priority and doing something for you is just as important as the work you do for others.
Therapy for Children and Teens
Just like adults, children and teens face their own challenges. Imagine being a child whose parents are divorcing. You feel so lost and confused. I help children and teens navigate these feelings and often help facilitate conversations that can be hard to have with their parents.
Perhaps you’ve always been a straight A student, and all of a sudden your grades are dropping and you don’t understand why. You’ve got a pit in your stomach each day before school and have trouble focusing while you’re there. Navigating things like anxiety, depression and ADHD can be challenging, but often times, with someone like a therapist on your side, it becomes easier and easier to face your feelings and learn healthy coping skills to overcome the issues that keep you from living your best life.
I believe young children (and even teens) express their feelings best through play and creativity. In many of my sessions with children, I incorporate imaginative play, games, drawing, and other creative means to make therapy more fun, engaging and help relieve some of the anxiety that may come with talking to a therapist. Building rapport and a trusting relationship are essential to working with children of all ages and I strive to achieve that in the work I do.
